What's included

What our FBA Prep service covers

01

FNSKU labelling

We apply the correct FNSKU label to every unit, so Amazon can identify each item as yours and receive it against the right listing.

02

Quality inspection

Our Bedford team inspects every item before labelling it, so damaged or incorrect units can be spotted before they reach an Amazon fulfillment centre.

03

Old label removal

We remove supplier labels and old barcodes so the FNSKU is the code that gets scanned, reducing the chance of units being received as the wrong product.

04

Poly bagging and bubble wrap

We poly bag or bubble wrap loose, fragile or easily marked items in line with Amazon’s prep and packaging requirements before they travel.

05

Palletisation for FBA

We stack and palletise cartons for larger consignments to Amazon’s requirements, so they travel to the fulfillment centre in the format Amazon asks for.

06

Shipping into Amazon FBA

Once prep is complete, we ship your stock directly into the Amazon FBA fulfillment centres your shipment plan specifies, on your behalf.

What an Amazon FBA prep centre in the UK does

An FBA prep centre sits between your supplier and Amazon. Rather than sending goods straight from a factory or wholesaler into a fulfillment centre, you route them through a prep centre. There, each unit is checked and made ready to Amazon’s prep and packaging requirements. At MuggleShip that work happens at our Bedford warehouse, carried out by the same operations team that runs our eCommerce Fulfillment and Returns Management.

The FNSKU (fulfillment network stock keeping unit) is the barcode Amazon assigns to your listing for FBA. A manufacturer barcode identifies the product; the FNSKU tells Amazon the unit belongs to your seller account. That is why supplier labels and old barcodes come off before the FNSKU goes on.

Why FBA prep matters: reducing the risk of rejected and unfulfillable stock

A unit may arrive at Amazon without its FNSKU, or with a supplier barcode that could be scanned in its place. Its packaging may also fall short of Amazon’s prep and packaging requirements. Any of these puts the stock at risk of being held up at receiving, rejected or classed as unfulfillable. A wrong label can also leave units matched to the wrong listing.

Each prep step targets one of those risks. Inspection comes first, so damaged, incorrect or poorly packed units can be identified before anything is labelled. FNSKU labelling, after old barcodes are removed, addresses missing and conflicting codes. Poly bags and bubble wrap protect loose, fragile or easily marked items in transit, and palletisation keeps larger consignments together. Each SKU follows the prep procedure agreed during onboarding.

How stock moves through our Bedford prep centre into Amazon

Your supplier, freight forwarder or current warehouse delivers to our warehouse at Unit 2, Caxton Road, Elms Farm Industrial Estate, Bedford MK41 0LF. Bedford is north of London, and overseas brands can use it as their single UK delivery address for Amazon-bound stock. One operations team in Bedford handles each consignment from goods-in to dispatch, with no hand-off between a receiving site and a prep site.

When a delivery arrives, we inspect every item and match it to its FNSKU. Old labels and barcodes come off, new labels go on, and we poly bag or bubble wrap units that need protection. We then palletise cartons to Amazon’s requirements and ship them into the Amazon fulfillment centres set out in your shipment plan.

Combining our FBA prep service with storage, returns and listings

Not every unit has to go into Amazon at once. Sending a full production run into FBA in one go may not match how quickly it sells. Instead, you can hold the balance in Bedford and prep it in batches as you create new shipment plans. Each batch goes through the same inspection, labelling and palletisation as the first.

Returns from orders we dispatch from Bedford go through Returns Management (returns on FBA orders go back to Amazon under its own returns process). We handle the RMA (return merchandise authorisation), inspect each item, then restock sellable items or dispose of damaged goods, following the instructions you set. Restocked units join the same inventory as your reserve FBA stock. They can then be FNSKU labelled and prepped for a later FBA shipment instead of sitting on a shelf.

Prep only works if the listing behind each FNSKU is right. If you are launching new SKUs, Amazon Listing Optimization can build the listings before your first inbound shipment; it is available as a standalone service or bundled with fulfillment. For SKUs already live but underperforming, a listing audit produces a prioritised fix list.

How it works

From first call to first shipment

  1. 01

    Tell us what needs prepping

Send your SKU list, expected units per month and where stock ships from, and flag items that are fragile or arrive without FNSKU labels. Your itemised quote, sent within 24 hours, prices the prep steps each SKU needs.

  2. 02

    Agree prep per SKU

Onboarding takes place within 5 business days of a signed quote. In that time we set up intake and agree a prep procedure for each SKU: which labels come off, what is bagged or wrapped, how cartons are palletised.

  3. 03

    Inbound and prep in Bedford

Your supplier delivers to our Bedford warehouse. We inspect every item, remove old barcodes, apply FNSKU labels, then bag or wrap units where needed and palletise cartons to Amazon’s requirements.

  4. 04

    Shipped into Amazon FBA

We ship the prepped consignment into the Amazon fulfillment centres in your shipment plan. Reserve stock can stay in Bedford storage until your next shipment plan is ready.

Who it's for
  • UK Amazon sellers whose suppliers ship unlabelled or barcode-only stock that needs FNSKU labels before FBA.
  • Overseas brands selling on Amazon UK that need stock checked and prepped in the UK before it goes into FBA.
  • Sellers who have had inventory held up, rejected or marked unfulfillable because of labelling or packaging problems.
  • Growing accounts adding SKUs faster than they can inspect, label, bag and palletise stock in-house.
  • Brands that want to hold reserve stock in Bedford and send it into FBA in smaller batches.
  • Multichannel sellers who want FBA prep, returns and eCommerce Fulfillment run from one UK warehouse.
FAQ

FBA Prep: common questions

Do I need a UK FBA prep centre if my supplier can apply labels?

Some suppliers can apply FNSKU labels, but not every supplier will also inspect each unit, remove conflicting barcodes or palletise to Amazon’s requirements. A UK FBA prep centre puts an independent check between the factory and Amazon. At MuggleShip, a team separate from your supplier inspects each unit and removes conflicting barcodes. We raise any problems we find with you before that stock ships to Amazon.

What do I need to send you before my stock arrives?

We need your Amazon shipment plan or the FNSKU labels created from it. For each SKU, we also need product information: what it is, how the supplier packs it and whether it is fragile. During onboarding we agree a prep procedure for each product, so every delivery of that SKU is handled the same way.

Do you ship the prepped stock into Amazon fulfillment centres for me?

Yes. Shipping into the Amazon fulfillment centres in your shipment plan is part of FBA Prep. We do it on your behalf once units are inspected, labelled, bagged where needed and palletised. For orders outside FBA that go to customers beyond the UK, see Cross-Border Shipping.

Can you store my stock and send it into FBA in batches?

Yes. Stock can be held at our Bedford warehouse in box, pallet, shelf or container storage and prepped for FBA as you create new shipment plans. Storage is billed by the space you use and how long you use it, not by SKU. It is included in your itemised quote alongside the prep work.

How much does FBA prep cost?

FBA prep is quoted per account rather than from a fixed rate card. The drivers are your active SKUs, units per month and the prep steps each SKU needs. A unit that only needs an FNSKU label takes less handling than one that also needs an old label removed and bubble wrap. Storage for reserve stock is quoted alongside prep. Higher volumes earn lower per-unit rates, and there is no setup fee, subscription or long-term contract.

Where is your prep centre, and where is it in relation to London?

Prep is carried out at our Bedford warehouse: Unit 2, Caxton Road, Elms Farm Industrial Estate, Bedford MK41 0LF. Bedford is in Bedfordshire, north of London, with road links to the M1 and A1. Sales and onboarding are handled from our London office at 86-90 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NE, while prep and dispatch for your account happen in Bedford.

What happens if items arrive damaged or the supplier sends the wrong product?

Every item is inspected at Bedford before it is labelled, so damaged units and supplier mix-ups can be identified before stock is sent to Amazon. Where inspection finds a problem, we raise it with you before that stock goes any further. That way, we are not labelling and shipping units that could be rejected or classed as unfulfillable once they reach a fulfillment centre.
